Free Training Sessions with Instructional Videos for Seniors in Romania and Hungary
An interactive training session was organized between 12-14 July in Săcueni by the Ér Hangja Association for retirees from Romania and Hungary. This workshop is part of a free training initiative under the winning Erasmus+ project titled Click it until you make it!. The goal of the training is to help seniors effectively and safely use the opportunities provided by digital devices through instructional videos. Additionally, the organizers aim to impart new knowledge to help seniors cope with the rapidly evolving challenges of digital technologies.
Twelve local retirees and eight members of the Retirees’ Civic Association from Gyula attended the meeting, accompanied by Magdolna Nagy from the partner organization Premier Vocational Art High School and Elementary Art School. A key component of the workshop was watching the instructional videos created earlier by professionals from the two organizations, gathering feedback from the seniors and discussing their comments and shortcomings in detail. Based on this feedback the partners will adjust, develop, or modify the videos to meet the target group’s needs and preferences, ensuring the videos are effective in achieving the learning objectives and providing digital educational content designed to the needs and preferences of the target group.
The three-day meeting included professional lectures and roundtable discussions. The main topics were the positive and negative aspects of internet use and security issues. The discussions also emphasized the importance of being vigilant against phone and online scams, which particularly affect this generation. Filtering information, news, and fake news through verification from multiple sources was also a significant topic. Practical issues such as using bank cards, online shopping, and payments, which are becoming increasingly important in the lives of the older generation, were also addressed.
In addition to gaining new knowledge, the meeting was a good opportunity for socializing and relaxation. The participants had the opportunity to take advantage of the local thermal spa facilities, which they were happy to do given the heatwave. They also participated in city tours and a historical lecture by Zoltán Bokor Sr. who not only participated as a trainee but also as an expert on the city’s places and history.
This weekend and the entire project play an essential and much-needed role in the lives of the elderly. It provides retirees with lifelong learning opportunities, emphasizing the importance of adult education, and helps them stay active and engaged in community life.
The Click it until you make it! small-scale strategic project is funded by the Erasmus+ KA210-ADU – Small-scale Partnerships in Adult Education program.
