Hungarian folk songs were performed – after the presentation of Romanian folk songs – the singing of the women of the Búzavirág Popular Choir from Săcueni filled the Szent László hall of the Ady Endre Cultural Center at the end of April. The event is part of the program series Digitradition – Digitisation of folk traditions, folk music and folk dance in Ier Valley, which was launched in February by the Ér Hangja Egyesület Association.

The group which is composed mostly of retired people was founded twenty years ago, the group now meets weekly under the leadership of music teacher Csilla Béres to rehearse and practice older songs and learn new ones. The presented collection of folk songs consisted of songs collected by Ildikó Bárdosi, an outstanding folk artist, folk singer and folk musician, from the Târnava coast of Bihor County, so the songs were authentically characteristic of the landscape. The notes captured in the audio recording became available for everyone to listen to in the context of a podcast.

These include love songs and outlaw songs. The songs were traditional from the village of Ciocaia, which administratively belongs to the city of Sacueni, while songs from Târgușor, Otmani, Marghita and Létavértes (Hungary) were also presented.

Listening to these songs, the almost four hundred Romanian, Hungarian and Roma students and their teachers studying at the Petőfi Sándor Theoretical High School got involved in a project to perpetuate the Romanian, Hungarian, Slovak and German folk traditions typical of the Ier Valley region. This is an important step for the sake of the future, because “The further back you can look, the more likely you are to see ahead” (Winston Churchill). On this occasion, a small slice of the diversity characteristic of the region was captured, which may encourage young people to continue and play these notes, because they are of rare beauty.

The closing event of the project is planned for July. The series of events is organized with the support of the European Solidarity Corps, in which the Petőfi Sándor Theoretical High School, the Zajgó folk dance group from Săcueni and the local town hall have entered into a partnership.
